Description

Step into the world of Burundian coffee with Migoti Coffee Company's fully washed Red Bourbon coffee. Named after the mountain on which it grows, Migoti's coffee washing station in Bujumbura Province is surrounded by ideal conditions for coffee production: high elevations, abundant rainfall, and the perfect climate for Arabica Bourbon coffee trees.
With an average of 150-200 coffee trees per farm, coffee production in Burundi has long been a means to rebuild the agrarian sector and to increase foreign exchange, as well as a reflection of the country's cultural heritage. Bourbon coffee, in particular, is grown at high elevations and is characteristically "sweet with bright acidity, big body, floral, citrus and spiced with wild notes."Producer Information

Producer Information

Migoti Coffee Company is a community-focused business that is making a positive impact on coffee farmers in Burundi. In 2016, they built a coffee washing station at Migoti Mountain and partnered with industry experts to ensure they have the technical expertise to produce high-quality green coffee. Today, Migoti purchases coffee cherries directly from the farmers who harvest and deliver them to the station, where they're processed and prepared for export.

Over the past three coffee seasons, Migoti Mountain has produced over 300 tons of green coffee, earning excellent cupping scores and consistently ranking among the best specialty coffee from Burundi. The success is largely due to the dedication of the local team, including ten permanent staff and over 250 temporary workers who are employed during the coffee season from March to June. The majority of the temporary staff are women, who work tirelessly on the raised drying tables, ensuring the coffee is of the highest quality.

Migoti Coffee Company also provides ongoing education to coffee farmers, helping them increase yields from their coffee trees by up to ten-fold through best farming practices such as pruning and proper care, intercropping, planting shade trees, utilizing green fertilizers, stabilizing soils and natural pest control.

By purchasing Migoti's green coffee, you're not only supporting a sustainable business that values its community but also getting high-quality specialty coffee from Burundi.

Join Our Journey

To date our Head Barista Aron has made over a million of coffees during his time, that’s a lot right? His dedication and skill has benefited coffee shops around the E.U., Canada, New York & his home city London.  In 2010 Aron started with a mobile espresso van which taught him just how difficult it can be to manage different bean densities in England’s inclement weather.  Determined to master the art of consistency, he spent days testing coffees from around the world, roasting different blends to formulate a recipe that would deliver a consistent base flavour within a temperature range of -5’c to 35’c.  Most coffee shops are fitted with air conditioning units which assist in maintaining that consistency, but without that luxury Aron’s understanding of the volatility of coffee grew considerably.

The business expanded in 2011 when both Aron and his wife, Clare, took on a failing coffee shop after the recession with aim to give it life.  With previous experience in hospitality and business management,  their dedication and hard graft paid off and The Espresso Lounge Tring is a successful coffee shop and cafe with several TripAdvisor awards and fantastic reviews.

They remain within this lucrative industry to date and can offer invaluable knowledge to new business start ups or those wishing to train their baristas to the highest possible standard. Barista equipment, coffee machines, sales training and business consultancy are all available through Barista Life and can set your business on the path to success.
